Dark Chocolate Detox Bites

I haven’t met  a whole lot of people who DON’T like Chocolates. Dark chocolate has plenty of health benefits: from controlling blood sugar, healthier heart and skin to reduce hunger cravings and anxiety. It is also loaded with antioxidants property and makes for a great pre-workout snack to energize the body and help reduce hunger cravings while waiting for the ride home from work without turning anyone into a hungry zombie. It’s no surprise that dark chocolate is considered as a super-food and recommended by the nutritionists and health coaches every where.

About these Dark Chocolate Detox Bites – I mean. What is there to say? It’s a dark chocolate snack/dessert that is actually good for you. It’s vegan. It has no added sugar and has plenty of flavor from dried fruits and nuts. Is there anything more you could want in a (guilt free) dessert?

To make these detox energy bites, I added nuts, sesame seeds and chia seeds to the melted dark chocolate (over 74% cocoa content) and sprinkled with flavorful and healthy toppings such as mulberries, goji berries, dried pineapple, dates etc. I made them in mini cupcake liners so they are easier to carry, store and eat. You can use any mold or even silicon ice cube trays if you like. They can be stored in  the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks or more (if you can resist eating them). The recipe is very flexible, any combination of fruits and nuts will do. They are 100% guilt free and are very easy to make. It took me less than 15 minutes to make a dozen of these hearty and healthy deliciousness. When your monster chocolate cravings strike, feed it a bite (or two!)

So now that you’re no stranger to the wonders of this guilt free goodness,  I hope you make these bites and treat yourself 🙂

Have a lovely weekend! xx

Dark Chocolate Bites

Ingredients

16 Ounces Dark Chocolate (over 70% cocoa content), roughly chopped
1 Cup Toasted Mixed Nuts, chopped
1 Tablespoon Toasted Sesame Seeds
1 Tablespoon Chia Seeds
Toppings
Assorted Dried Fruits (Pineapple, Apricots, Mango, Papaya, Ginger, Blueberries, Goji Berries, Mulberries etc.)
Sea Salt
Dried Hibiscus Leaves, crushed
Shredded Coconut
Toasted Pistachios, chopped
Toasted Sesame Seeds
Dates, chopped
Pepitas

Process

  1. Add the chopped chocolate to a stainless steel bowl. Place the bowl over a saucepan of simmering water to make a double boiler. Using a spatula, gently stir the chocolate in the bowl and let it melt completely.
  2. Add 3/4 of the chopped nuts, sesame seeds and chia seeds to the melted chocolate and stir well. Add in most of the nuts, dried fruit, and seeds to the melted chocolate and stir well.
  3. Using a spoon, pour the mixture into desired molds. I used mini cupcake liners and filled them 3/4 of the way. Sprinkle with any/all of the toppings and let set in the refrigerator for few hours.

Enjoy! 🙂
